Farm Market Tours
Through funding provided by the 5 A Day Power Play Campaign and
Sonoma County's Department of Health Services, we are able to take
groups school children (4th and 5th grades) to visit our local Farmers'
markets. These
visits provide children an opportunity to meet local farmers and
learn about fruits and vegetables with a "Market Sleuth" Activity
where they search for different fruits and vegetables. Each child
gets a "Farmers' Market Buck" to spend on fruits or vegetables.
This exposure to fresh locally grown food is a fun way to give kids
a chance to try nutritious fruits and vegetables they may never
have seen or heard of before.
